When One Part of Your HVAC Falls Behind, Your Whole Home Feels It

HVAC Help

HVAC FAQs

Can any home have central air installed?

Yes, usually any home can have central air. You probably will have to allow for ductwork and other design allowances, but it can be done. Before making the decision to have central air installed in your home, you should schedule an in-home consultation with a certified HVAC technician to get an idea of the total cost. Other cooling options for your home aside from central air include ductless split systems.

How long does it take to install a central air conditioning system?

Usually, it will take one to five days for a professional to install a central air conditioning system in your home. A/C replacements and projects with extensive ductwork, repairs, and/or installations will take more time.

How much does a new air conditioner cost?

The price of a new air conditioner starts at around $79/month, but it will depend on your home’s size and the unit you need installed. Consider installing a new air conditioner when you buy a new furnace, by adding both units to your forced air system simultaneously, you can save on costs by reducing time and labor.

Do gas furnaces still run when the power goes out?

Gas furnaces and boilers cannot run without electricity. Gas stoves and standard (not high-efficiency) gas water heaters can still run during a power outage. Tankless water heaters will not run, and gas dryers will not run.

Do you install heat pumps?

Yes we do!

Do you work on boilers?

Yes, we can help with maintenance and repairs across most of our service area.

Do you work on geothermal units?

No, we do not.

Does my thermostat’s location matter?

Yes, thermostat location affects heating and cooling efficiency. Install it centrally on an interior wall, away from heat sources, drafts, windows, and vents. Mount it 52 to 60 inches above the floor and avoid areas with poor airflow. Proper placement ensures accurate readings, consistent temperature, and improved energy efficiency.

Does turning off your thermostat cause your HVAC system or furnace to wear out faster?

Turning off your thermostat occasionally does not typically cause your HVAC system or furnace to wear out faster. However, frequently turning the system on and off can cause more wear and tear due to the repeated cycling. It’s generally better for the longevity of your HVAC system to maintain a consistent temperature and use a programmable thermostat to adjust temperatures automatically when you’re not home.

Does turning on your HVAC system after prolonged inactivity cause any problems?

Turning your HVAC system on after a prolonged inactivity can cause issues if the system has not been correctly maintained. Dust and debris can accumulate in the system, leading to clogged filters, reduced airflow, and mechanical wear. Components like belts, bearings, and electrical connections may deteriorate over time if not regularly used or inspected. It’s advisable to have a professional inspection and maintenance performed before restarting the system.

How does your scheduling work?

Our appointments operate on “Flex Scheduling.” We will keep you updated throughout the day and give you a call 30 minutes before we head your way to ensure you are available.

How often should I change my air filter?

Air filters should be changed every 1-3 months, depending on the type of filter and your household conditions.

How often should I service my HVAC system?

It’s recommended that your HVAC system, both heating and cooling, be serviced at least once a year.

On average how many hours does it take to replace a furnace or A/C

Replacing a furnace or air conditioner takes about 4 to 8 hours. This time frame can vary based on factors like the complexity of the installation, the condition of existing ductwork, and any additional modifications needed.

Should I turn off my heater/thermostat when gone from the house?

Lowering the thermostat instead of turning it off completely is often the best approach to balance energy savings and home protection.

What brands do you service?

We service all brands.

What HVAC issues should be fixed ASAP?

An HVAC emergency includes several critical situations such as loud banging, screeching, or grinding noises from your HVAC system, refrigerant leaks from your A/C unit, sparking or burning smells from your furnace or A/C system, and the smell of gas near your furnace or heating system. These issues require immediate attention to ensure safety.

What is the ideal thermostat setting for comfort and energy savings?

In the summer, set your thermostat to 78°F when you’re home and higher when you’re away. In the winter, set it to 68°F when you’re home and lower when you’re away.

What refrigerant is used in an A/C?

Most existing air conditioners use R-410A refrigerant, while newer systems are transitioning to lower-GWP refrigerants such as R-454B and R-32. Older systems may still use R-22, which has been phased out of new production and installation.
